Midnight Syndicate creates “soundtracks for the imagination”, mostly in the gothic horror genre. One of their best works to date. While much of their earlier work sounded too cheesy for me (keyboard MIDI stuff that couldn’t really build a horror mood because it made you chuckle) I think that this album has a sound quality to it that really shows that they are going in a good direction. It would be nice to see more real instruments mixed in with electronic ones because that can sound really good, I know Trent Reznor made it work. It still doesn’t compare to horror film soundtracks such as Hellraiser and The Shining or even The Fountain (which isn’t horror but has some creepy moods), but I think it could be good filler, for those times in between really important scenes.
