I have never been hooked-in by an opening track as strongly as this album grabbed me with “Wolf Suite pt. 1”. As soon as I heard it I knew I would be saving it for the final confrontation with the “Big Bad Evil Guys” in my campaign. It is dark and heavy and opens up with the sound of impending doom. While this is definitely the highlight of the album, in my opinion, the rest doesn’t disappoint. If you have a darker side to your game, be it undead, necromancers, evil cults, or whatever, you will find plenty of themes to work with from this album. It would be perfect for a Ravenloft campaign. The string section just outshines any other previous Elfman score. There is always something evil and terrifying lurking in the darkness on this album. There’s a lot to work with here, mystery/suspense, action, and quiet tracks that border lamentation.
